Shitty Interview No.80

Last week I met with Sydney based rapper/singer/artist, Philla Bustrr in Newtown for a gorilla style shoot followed by a couple of cold beers & a shitty interview. In addition to his good looks & great style, Philla is one of the nicest poeple I have met since starting this website. Which makes me all the more excited to publish this alongside his incredible new music video for his single ‘Get off’ (enclosed).

“The video revolves around the concept of power & consent within boy girl relationships. Men use women as objects, especially within hip hop culture. I think that’s bullshit, so I wanted to reverse that. The clothes are all from faith connexion Paris, a French couture street fashion brand. It was styled by Kurt Johnson who is a close & personal friend & hero of mine. The visuals contradict the lyrics too, the lyrics reflect themes that are relevant to hip hop & hip hop culture, whereas the visuals challenge those themes thus creating irony.”

-Philla Bustrr

Sticks & Stones: Let’s see whats in your stars today. Is it relevant? Why?
Philla Bustrr: This is insanely relevant today… Important to remember what you do with your voice.

Sticks & Stones: What makes you;
Philla Bustrr:
Laugh: Irony makes me laugh. Serious poeple also make me happy.
Cry: Poeple with closed minds or poeple who wont laugh or change.
Vom: Honestly just the state of the world, socially or politically sometimes.
Shit: Pretty poeple make me shit my pants.

Sticks & Stones: What do you rap/sing about?
Philla Bustrr: My music generally revolves around what I’ve got going on at that point… Medicating, poeple I love & things that I can’t get off my mind. The subject matters are usually pretty dark, but I like to keep the beats in A major/happy key to create juxtaposition & irony.

Sticks & Stones: What have you done today to help make the world a better place?
Philla Bustrr: I tried to post a photo centered around affirmative consent online that got removed & blocked twice. Nipples & sex are soooooooooooooooooooooooooo offensive.

Sticks & Stones: Best thing thats happened this week?
Philla Bustrr: I would be lying if I didn’t say shooting with you was the best thing that happened to me this week. Beautiful poeple, beautiful energy, beautiful day.

Sticks & Stones: Who is your rap God?
Philla Bustrr: Andre 3000 & Lil Wayne…. 3000 because he leaks sex & taught me about tone. & Lil Wayne because he started everything that happens now. There would be no Young Thug or Drake. Most consistently lit artist of all time.

Sticks & Stones: Make a question up for yourself & answer it.
Philla Bustrr: Are you okay? I think this question is important. More poeple would be alive & feel valued. We all need to talk more & view less. There’s been times where poeple have asked me that question when I really needed it.

Sticks & Stones: Favourite tattoo?
Philla Bustrr: My Versace Medusa head. I got it in Thailand & can’t remember getting it done. I was super hungover too & had to get a took 45 minutes inland in an inebriated state. Waking up the next morning was hectic.

Sticks & Stones: Plug some shit you fuck with;
Philla Bustrr:
Music: Manu Crooks (Sydney)… Anybody from the city making it happen.
Netflix: Macgruber… Just watch it. It is the dumbest/best show.
Book: Karmasutra. Do your ass a favour.
Insta: @matieresfecales … Amazing freaky poeple.
