Danny Lane ‘Afternoons (NSFW)’
Having access to copious amounts of inspiration & photos online is amazing, but nothing beats holding them in your hand in the form of an awesome coffee table book. At least that’s how I feel. So when regular contributor, Danny Lane told me he had compiled a gorgeous collection of photographs for his limited edition numbered & signed hardcover entitled ‘Afternoons’, I got pretty fucking excited. In this collection of photographs, Danny captures comfort & confidence in a series of intimate, uneroticized nudes. These grainy 35mm b&w photos witness a diverse group of women at home in New York City, each photographed over the course of an afternoon.
“With these uniquely amazing ladies, I spent about an hour in an apartment shooting & chatting. I want to show nudity in a way that I hope I always have. It’s nothing new. It’s a nudity before you get dressed after a shower. It’s a nudity in your kitchen because, fuck it, nobody is home. The subjects in ‘Afternoons’ are exercising everything from staring into your eyes on their living room couch smiling, to putting on their socks or picking up soap in the shower. I suppose it’s a relatively curious, yet subtle & certainly non-sexual gaze. Making this collection was a really fun & casual experience. The book is collaborative & although I am the sole photographer, the women within the pages & the publishers at Anteism are the ones truly worthy of your applause.”
