Ainsley Hutchence S&S ‘Off like a prom dress for Live Fast Magazine’
A couple months ago a Sydney based model called Peyote Jaye was passing through my home town & so it made perfect sense to shoot since she is gorgeous & adorable & sexy & nice.
It was the morning of the shoot (we were planning to meet at a trashy local hotel at 5pm) & I had no idea what I would style Peyote in. For some reason a blue 80’s prom dress popped into my head, so I hit up the first thrift store I passed on the way to the location. I couldn’t believe it. A bright blue 80’s dress just like the one I had envisioned was draped beautifully over a mannequin in the window display. When I asked the lady if I could try it on she said she had only just finished dressing the mannequin, literally moments before I drove past! It was fait!
Just like that my first ever ongoing photo series was born. It’s called #SSPromqueen. Each part will star a different darling wearing a new old dress that I find at a thrift store, probably just hours before the shoot.
I love the thought of breathing new life into a dress that was once cherished & worn to a special occasion. I plan on trying to find the owner of each dress & getting its back story. This one looks like an 80’s bridesmaid dress. Its bright blue & made of itchy lace & tule & incredible shiny taffeta.
I usually prefer super colourful photos but this time I decided to shoot in Black & Grey to put emphasis on the shapes & textures.
Can’t wait to shoot the next part.
