Ainsley Hutchence S&S ‘S&S does World Pride Sydney 23’
Still buzzing after the most colorful, cheerful, thought and emotion-evoking, sensory-stimulating weekend of our life- World Pride, Sydney 23. Just over a week ago, we packed our bags full of colour, leather, sparkles and mesh and made our way from Byron Bay to Sydney for the 45th anniversary of the first Madi Gras parade.
Experiencing Madi Gras up close and personally took us all on an emotional rollercoaster. First flooded with waves of intense happiness, watching the LGBTQIA+ community find and flaunt the joy in their identity, and different groups, many in uniforms march through the street in solidarity. Queer people have certainly come a long way from the days when police would come into their homes and brutally attack them. Then hit by unexpected waves of sadness and sorrow recognizing that Pride is undoubtedly still a protest for a minority group that has been criminalized and brutalized and many queer activists would tell you that the community still has a long way to go. We feel incredibly honored to witness such a moving and important event and energized by the love, joy, and pride that was oozing out of every participant and the hundreds of thousands of people on the streets that cheered them on and celebrated with them from the sidelines.
MASSIVE THANK YOU TO:
THANKS TATTOO who invited us to stay at their gorgeous guest house with the perfect rooftop view of the Pride march.
MARYS for the best Vegan patty & bunless burgers I have ever had.
BAR LUCIA for the perfect little pre-march cocktail created in collaboration with drag sweetheart Victoria Mami.
MR CONSISTENT for providing rooftop cocktail mixers.
HALL OF HARPER & SOMETHING VERY SPECIAL for dressing us.
And to the incredible team at the SARAH GARDNER store in Paddington for taking us on a tour of your gorgeous fine jewelry collection and helping us pick out the perfect pieces.
