Kristin Gallegos ‘Disappear here: Series one book release’
LA photographer & regular contributor to Sticks & Stones Kristin Gallegos presents her self-published photography book series entitled ‘Disappear here’. Each bound release highlights a different muse of Kristin’s trying on a new persona & showcases her as the alternative character.
‘Series One’ showcases Cora Keegan in the role of The Dancer. This particular book was inspired by Kristin’s life as a classical ballet dancer as well as her ballet heroes growing up; Legends such as Gelsey Kirkland, Natalia Makarova, and Leslie Browne.
The title of this series is derived from the book ‘Less Than Zero’ by Bret Easton Ellis & was also the name of Kristin’s first solo photography show in New York City in 2017, but ‘Disappear Here: Series One’ presents its main character cinematically. It was Kristin’s intention that a subtle storyline move the viewer forward chronologically through one day, in lieu of simply presenting a collection of singular moments. Kristin’s love of pre-digital cinematography, especially in films of the 60s & 70s, inspired her to differentiate these volumes from her previous work & similarly offers the audience something more than a traditional photo book. The 1977 film ‘The Turning Point’ in which Leslie Browne stars heavily influenced the aesthetic of this first series, & each additional release will mirror equally iconic onscreen ingenues.
