Jacob Erwin ‘Getting lost’
Despite their dehydration headaches, Jacob Erwin & his muse, Akira Ament managed to shoot this beautiful desert series appropriately entitled ‘Getting lost’.
“Where do I even begin? We decided it would be a good idea to go to Joshua tree with no prior planning, food, water & no idea where to go besides to search the name “Joshua Tree”. We soon found out that “Joshua Tree” was a little town & not the actual national park location. With that said, three & a half hours into driving we finally reached our destination, that was thought to be at most two & a half hours. Getting lost didn’t help.
Once we finally got settled, 20 minutes into our shoot in the 104 degree heat, we realized we had no water & we were an hour drive into the park, with less than a quarter tank of gas left. Toughing out the heat with our head aches from dehydration, we successfully got an hour of shooting & captured what I would like to call “magic”. Then we slowly headed back to the little town driving downhill on neutral to save as much gas as possible praying to not run out of gas & be stranded in the desert. Although that day we were both dying I would repeat the day 10 times out of 10 if I were to get the same results.
