Sticks & Stones Shitty Interview No.139
We recently caught up with Brisbane’s four-piece WAXX for Sticks & Stones Shitty Interview No.139.
Earlier this year WAAX released their highly anticipated second studio album ‘At Least I’m Free’ via Dew Process. Awash in samples and programmed beats as well as gargantuan riffs and, of course, frontwoman Maz DeVita’s spine-tingling howl, ‘At Least I’m Free’ telegraphs the band’s ambition to step beyond ‘Australian rock’ and into a weirder, wilder landscape. Following the release, WAXX will perform a 22-date national album tour starting tonight through to December.

Sticks & Stones: Who do you want to get a beer with?
Waxx: Sebastian Maniscalco. He’s funny as hell.
Sticks & Stones: Draw yourselves
Waxx: See illustration
Sticks & Stones: What’s a vibe?
Waxx: An open bar. That’s the first thing that comes to mind. Does that mean I have a problem? surely everyone loves an open bar? ARE WE PISSHEADS?!
Sticks & Stones: How can we be better?
Waxx: This is such a deep question!!! sounds lame, but we need to LOVE more. Everyone needs to feel loved, we’ve been taught to point the finger at each other, but at the end of the day we are all the same & have the same needs.
Sticks & Stones: Tell us a fun fact about you guys
Waxx: I am a scorpio, Spew is an Aquarius, Tom is a gemini & James is a Sagittarius. Lots of air in the band. Explain why we talk so much shit.
Sticks & Stones: What are you listening to?
Waxx: At this point time I’m listening to weirder & weirder by Ball Park Music. It keeps me in a positive mood- which is what I need to get through these days. I juggle a million things at once.
Sticks & Stones: Worst gig you’ve ever played?
Waxx: Probably a floor show on the central coast (NSW). A woman standing in front of me licked the arm I was singing with from my elbow to my wrist in one motion, one long lick. it was so fucked. the only person who witnessed it was Spew. We were in shock.
Sticks & Stones: Who would win in a fight out of the band members?
Waxx: Hands down it would be Spew. He is a legit blackbelt in Karate.
Sticks & Stones: Do you believe in vaping?
Waxx: The boys are VAPELORDZ. Personally I could go about my life happily without it.
Sticks & Stones: Give us some shitty advice
Waxx: If you think something is a bad idea, then it probably is and you should not do it.
