Sticks & Stones Shitty Interview No.147
Following the release of her debut solo EP ‘Lately’ we caught up with Melbourne artist Monnie to ask her the important questions like “what’s the last lie you told?”, “what’s your flavour?” & “is the Australian indie rock scene a boys club?”
‘Lately’ is the first body of work by Monnie as a solo artist, and features her single ‘Bored’, which is currently on high rotation on Triple J, as well as her debut track ‘Tell Me Something’ co-written with her close friend and former housemate Forest Claudette, and the incredibly catchy new single ‘Read No Reply’.
The EP is full of offbeat pop melodies, with clever wordplay exploring growing pains, relationship anxiety and more.
Today it is a pleasure to bring you Sticks & Stones Shitty Interview No.147 with Monnie.
Sticks & Stones: What’s addictive?
Monnie: Pop music & Nicotine.
Sticks & Stones: 3 things you can’t live without?
Monnie: Food, air & water…..also….sun, cooking, my cat.
Sticks & Stones: What’s your most valuable possession?
Monnie: My clarinet or a locket my mum gave to me a few birthdays ago.
Sticks & Stones: Tell us a secret.
Monnie: My feet are a women’s size 10.5/11.
Sticks & Stones: Is the Australian indie rock scene a boys club?
Monnie: Hahahahhahahaha yes 100%…..or 99%. I want to say no but that would be a lie. I have a lot to say about it and I believe that it is changing and can change MORE but as it stands….
Sticks & Stones: Most recent Google search?
Monnie: How to put together a NORDLI Ikea Bed on your own…any ideas?
Sticks & Stones: What’s the last lie you told?
Monnie: Was probably when I didn’t hear what someone said but I had already asked for clarification too many times to ask again so I pretended that I knew what was said and I laughed and nodded just like anyone else would do okay no need to scrutinize me I’m just like you.
Sticks & Stones: Best thing that happened to you this year?
Monnie: Playing music with my best friends 🙂 and having a real housewife of Melbourne like one of my Instagram reels.
Sticks & Stones: What’s your flavour?
Monnie: A glass of sweet red vermouth with ice on a lovely Brisbane afternoon/evening during summer.
Sticks & Stones: Give us some shitty advice.
Monnie: Never think twice, believe everything anyone ever says to you, forget that nagging feeling that something is terribly wrong and please PLEASE DO not look behind you.
