Sticks & Stones Shitty Interview No.98
Following the recent release of her single & music video ‘In My Head’ alternative-pop songstress Aria Wunderland takes a moment out of her busy schedule to sit down for a Sticks & Stones Shitty Interview.
Following her previous single, “Risk it All,” which has over 300k views on YouTube, this newest single shows off more of Aria’s vulnerable side in this classically-retro sounding bop. The track is deeply introspective & is about being infatuated with someone, loving everything about another person while internalizing a lot of those thoughts & feelings.
“This song reflects on the novelty aspects of initiating a connection with someone. It describes that moment when it all begins, & all you can do is think about this person all day. Everything reminds you of them. You love everything about them & think about them at night when you close your eyes & try to fall asleep. The passion is on the brink of obsession, but they may not even know you feel this way about them yet.”
Sticks & Stones: How did your last first date go?
Aria Wunderland: Let’s just say don’t ever do a three-course dinner on a first date. Maybe just meet for coffee. When you meet for dinner you’re forced to hang out for quite a while when things go south. My last first date involved the guy getting way too drunk. Maybe he was nervous, but I ended up having to sit through a very messy, long, slurry & politically incorrect conversation. I at least managed to get out of dessert. He then tried to awkwardly kiss me. I eventually had to drive him home because he definitely couldn’t drive, much less figure out how to call a Lyft. He fell asleep in my car snoring loudly with his mouth wide open. I’m glad he didn’t throw up!
Sticks & Stones: 5 things you don’t care about?
1. Stuff. I’m not very materialistic. I prefer to travel, experience & memories over physical things. Guess I’m a minimalist!
2. What people think. I’ve had to work on this one, but I’ve learned to be authentic across the board. Not everyone will like me.
3. Sports. I hope I’m not disappointing anyone who is reading this, but I’m not really into watching sports. I’ll honestly watch the Super Bowl for the commercials & half time show.
4. Fame. Love to share my art with whoever wants to consume it, but fame is not on my agenda.
5. Religion. I’m not enrolled in the concept of religion. I prefer spirituality. I have the utmost respect for anyone who is religious. Find what works for you 🙂
Sticks & Stones: Last thing you put in your mouth?
Aria Wunderland: Currently crunching on white chocolate covered macadamia nuts that I brought back from Hawaii.
Sticks & Stones: What helps you sleep at night?
Aria Wunderland: I typically fall asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow. But if I’m having trouble I’ll listen to some music like Chopin, watch a slow time period movie/series or movie from my phone. In general, having a productive day will give me a sense of peace I need to fall asleep right away.
Sticks & Stones: What’s the grossest thing in your fridge right now?
Aria Wunderland: Mouldy rotten strawberries. I just got back from a trip & apparently forgot to throw them out before I left. They’ve turned furry, green, so gross! I haven’t had the courage to deal with them yet. At some point today I will need to clean out my fridge desperately.
Sticks & Stones: What’s the most embarrassing thing you’ve done this week?
Aria Wunderland: I changed from a skirt into pants at the airport. I was about to board my flight & there was a big line for the bathroom. I decided to just change at the gate. I didn’t realise it would feel embarrassing until I noticed everyone was looking at me. At least it’s very unlikely I’ll ever see any of these people again in my life.
Sticks & Stones: What animal do you consider yourself to be most like?
Aria Wunderland: A horse! I’ve always loved them & feel such a deep connection towards them. I love that they’re strong yet at times feel fear & aren’t afraid to show vulnerability. Like me, they can be stubborn, yet are willing to bend if it makes sense. I connect with their focus & ability to have direction when channelling their fierceness.
Sticks & Stones: If you could bring 1 person back from the dead who would it be?
Aria Wunderland: Martin Luther King Jr. He made such a difference in his short life. He observed what was wrong with the world & wasn’t afraid to stand up & fight to make a difference. He stood for peace & equality & because of his efforts helped America understand the power of non-violent protest. Given the current climate in our country, I feel like he would be the perfect person to help bring much-needed peace & love into the world.
Sticks & Stones: Tell us something your mother doesn’t know.
Aria Wunderland: My mom is pretty conservative so there is a lot I spare her from. She definitely doesn’t know that my boyfriend & I were living together for years. We did a great job at hiding this. She also doest know about all of the piercings. Mom, if you’re reading this, Sorry!
Sticks & Stones: What scares you?
Aria Wunderland: Cockroaches. I know that in theory, they can’t harm me, but my God are they disgusting! On a deeper level, fear of failure is something I grapple with. It’s paired with the fear of success because the more you succeed the bigger the impact when you fall. I’m driven by perfection & have had to teach myself that perfection is unattainable & failure is subjective. The only real failure is not trying. My rule is if I fear something then I definitely have to do it!
