Adam Dawda ‘It was 11pm in Guangzho’
Adam Dewda offers viewers a window into his world during the making of his short film & photo series entitled ‘It was 11pm in Guangzho’.
“This is quite possibly the most personal piece of visual art I’ve ever made. Two years ago I was living abroad in Guangzhou, China. There I was in the habit of taking my camera with me everywhere I went; whether I had a specific inspiration, frame in mind, area of exploration, or not; I was on a perpetual mission. What that gave me was the ability to capture all the nuanced moments for what they were, without embellishment & with something akin to an eery sort of honesty; I consider this a documentation. This is a documentation of myself & all whom I captured. I wish to encapsulate & preserve that period of my life; this is a monument. It is fragmented like our memories; only remembering the broken-up pieces, & the vivid colours that are preserved within them. It flows like a dream; enigmatic, & mostly forgotten in the light of day. As our memories blur, they fade & mix together until we have only the biased lens of our own perception in which to view them, & the life we left behind is nothing but a mist of our previous reality.”
