Stephanie Cassano ‘Nitti gritti not so itti bitti comitti’
Set at a boxing ring in Melbourne’s CBD, Stephanie Cassano delivers a burst of colour & attitude with her latest stunning series, featuring all of her own designs.
“Throughout my practice, I have educated myself with the term ‘feminism’ & what’s involved in it. According to the dictionary it means “the advocacy of woman’s rights on the ground of the equality of sexes” – simply all it means is equality.
In more depth, I started to research third wave feminism, which highlights female rap artists such as Lil Kim, Remy Ma & Foxy Brown. Not only has this research changed me, I can confirm I am a feminist. It educated me about the rise of woman & change in the male dominated rap industry, & also inspired me to create a collection to inflict change on other women to feel powerful & untouchable – that’s what these artists represented, & I know for myself, even when I listen to their lyrics & soundtracks I feel unstoppable.
My concept is all about attitude & taking a stand & it shows through my designs. It’s about women embracing who they are, classy or nasty, what they look like, thin or thick, & embracing their sexuality & confidence.
My designs obtain sequins, eyelets, lacing, fur trimmings, ‘bling’ & sparkle, all the elements you want to make a girl feel fabulous.”
