Berber Theunissen ‘Skin’
Berber Theunissen focuses her camera on things that affect her personally. Things that she loves & things that makes her feel vulnerable. “I capture moments, feelings & memories of intense emotional value to me, or to the people around me. My photographs are reflections of the memories in my mind. I take photographs because I want to preserve what is otherwise lost forever; time.”
For her debut feature, Berber captures beautiful intimate moments between Nena & Michelle.
“After feeling insecure & unwilling to accept who I was so often in my life, I started photographing the skin of others, longing to embrace the skin I live in. I wanted to feel connected to the flaws & the weaknesses of the girls I photographed, in the same way I experienced my own. It’s about peeling back the layers, exposing something deeply intimate & true.”
