Carolin Schild ‘Something to show the kids’

Carolin Schild captures & celebrates the love between Jase Battiste & Shy Lennox in her stunning new series. Jase & Shy

“We each grew up in small towns where it was more important to fit in rather than to live your truth. As black men, having so many targets on our backs, we are expected to live heteronormative lifestyles in order to please our community. For as long as we can remember, showing any sign of feminine energy or intimacy between two men was a flaw that made us seem less valuable or even deviants.

It is important for us to change the narrative that black queer love isn’t real love, it has always existed & should no longer be hidden or stigmatized. Being with each other in plain sight, showing public displays of affection, & existing out loud is absolutely something to show the kids. Showing young black queer people that love is not one dimensional & doesn’t ever need to be.”
